Nasdaq Narrowing the Gap with NYSE in U.S. Market Capitalization Since 2021

The Nasdaq's market capitalization soared by 132% over five years, climbing from $12.1 trillion in October 2019 to $28.2 trillion in October 2024. This growth far outpaced the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), which saw a more modest increase of 28%, rising from $23.2 trillion to $29.7 trillion during the same period. As a result, Nasdaq's share of total U.S. market capitalization surged from 34% in 2019 to nearly 50% in 2024, underscoring the rising dominance of the technology-driven sector in U.S. financial markets.
